Hearing Loops

A Hearing Loop, also known as an induction loop or T-loop, is an assistive listening system designed to help people with hearing loss hear sound clearly. It works by sending audio signals directly to hearing aids or cochlear implants equipped with a telecoil (often called a “T” switch). This allows users to hear sound without the interference of background noise or room acoustics, making speech and other important sounds much clearer.

The system consists of a wire loop installed around a designated area – such as a room, auditorium, or service counter – connected to an amplifier. When sound is picked up by a microphone or audio source, it gets converted into an electrical signal by the amplifier and sent through the loop wire. This creates a magnetic field that transmits the sound signal directly to the telecoil in the hearing aid or implant, which then converts it back into sound tailored to the user’s specific hearing needs.

Hearing loops can be installed in many public and private spaces, including theatres, places of worship, classroom settings, banks, and customer service counters. They provide a discreet, easy-to-use solution for individuals with hearing loss, eliminating the need for additional receivers or devices. Alongside improving accessibility and user experience, hearing loops help organisations meet legal requirements for serving people with hearing impairments and are becoming a standard feature in many buildings and venues worldwide.

This technology is highly valued because it enhances sound clarity, reduces listening effort, and creates a more inclusive environment for people with hearing difficulties.

Hire our Hearing Loops

ClearaSound offers a complete Hearing Loop Hire service for conferences and seminars, enabling participants with T-switch-enabled hearing aids and cochlear implants to hear clearly. We can deliver, setup, pack up and return the equipment for one or more days in the Sydney Metropolitan area. We can also make special arrangements for rural or interstate hire – please contact us for details.

You can choose to connect to your audio-visual system directly or be provided with radio microphones for connection to the hire loop. We can also provide a portable PA where sound reinforcement is needed.

Typically the hire loop will cover an area of 8m x 15m, but bigger areas can be covered if required.
